Welcome to All Round Poker!
While many agree that the game of poker to a large degree consists of a tremendous amount of chance, there are certain tactics that can improve your situation no matter what cards you have been dealt. Poker to a certain extent blends human psychology into the sport. When playing face to face with other players, certain clues can help you determine what strategy your opponent may be implementing. Having this information can help you play your hand better.
An important thing to determine when playing poker is whether or not your opponent is being genuine in their actions or is merely trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Careful observation of their gestures and mannerisms can often provide you with clues to make this determination.
For example, say your rival’s hands are shaking. This clue would tell you that they really are nervous about something as it is not easy to fake that your hands are shaky. This player could be bluffing their hand. However, some players are just in general nervous people and their hands will shake regardless of their poker tactics. This is why it is recommended that you spend some time observing your fellow players first in order to determine their baseline behaviour.
Another observation to make about a player is a change in their actions. For instance, say your opponent begins acting like their hand is terrible. They may moan, shrug and look defeated. Be cautious in these situations. If this is not normal behaviour for this player when they have a poor hand, they could definitely be bluffing because in all actuality they have a winning hand. They are trying to fool you and want you to let your guard down a bit.
Another thing to observe about your fellow poker players is the amount of eye contact they have with you. If a player suddenly changes the amount of eye contact, this is a sign that something is up. Also, when a player suddenly starts looking away they may actually have a terrific hand and are trying to act cool so you don’t suspect they do.
